4 Days Akagera Wildlife Experience

Four days Akagera wildlife experience will give you the great experience in your life in the country of thousand hills. Your trip will start by discovering Kigali and continue to Akagera National Park one of the oldest Park in Africa.

Details of the trip

Day1: Discover Kigali city

After breakfast from hotel, our professional French and English speaking driver guide will pick you up to embark the tour on the city. This city tour will start from Kigali Genocide memorial centre and end at Nyamata reconciliation Village.

Distance: 55 km – 5 hours

Kigali Genocide memorial will acquaints you with the barbarities of 1994 Genocide against theTutsi which decimated the country and left an estimated of one million people dead.

On the brighter side, however the tour of Kigali will show you how Rwandans have put those darks days behind them and literally rebuild the country.

After lunch from the hotel the city tour will continue to Bugesera reconciliation village which locates in southwest of Kigali and it will take one hour drive.

The trip to this village will provide a deep understanding of how many pardoned Genocide criminals who asked forgiveness are living in the village together with Genocide survivors in the harmony.

After visiting this unit and reconciliation Village the driver guide will bring back to the hotel in Kigali stay a night there.

Day2: Driver to home of big five Akagera

After breakfast from the hotel, the driver guide will take you to Akagera National park and the drive will take about 2.5 hours.

A stretch stop over at  Kayonza imingo art Centre after one and a half hour drive  will provide  you an experience of origin of imigingo and the test of Eastern coffee. After this stop over which will last after 30 munites we  shall continue to Akagera Park headquarters for behind the scenes and boat trip in lake Ihema.

Behind the scenes tour gives a chance to get a deeper and detailed understanding of the works going on in the conservation efforts and future plans of the park.

As this conservation stories tour end, your guide will take you to the lodge for lunch.

After refreshment from the lodge you will have a scenic drive to Lake ihema for the sunset boat.

Lake ihema is known to be second largest lake in Rwanda after lake Kivu and famous lakes in East Africa to have large concentration of hippos.

During this experience, you will learning the symbiotic relationship between hippos and crocodiles as well as aquatic birds. After this great experience you will be taken back to your hotel for dinner and stay a night there.

Distance to Akagera National Park passing through rwamagana – kayonza is 145 km –  3 hours

Day 3:  Adventure full day game drive

This full day adventure game drive will start from southern part of the park and end at north Karenge luxury bush camp

During this adventure game drive you will be lucky to spot some of the big five animals like lions, elephants, buffalos, Rhinos and leopards. Large number of zebras and many antelopes species will be spotted along road sides, beautiful sceneries of rolling hills, plains, lakes, swamps will be give an idea of the uniqueness of Akagera National Park.

After refreshment at Karenge luxury bush camp, you will join professional field guide of the park in side open safari vehicle for the night safaris to spot some of nocturnal animals like leopards, hyenas, genets, bush babies and other remained unseen during your day game drive, this night safaris experience will end in three hours and drive back to the camp for dinner and stay a night there.

Distance through the park should be 80 km

Day 4: Early morning tour

This early morning adventure tour, will give the chance to maximize your spots of unseen nocturnal animals with a great experience of animal community association in Kilala plain which is considered as heart of the Park, you will be enjoying the sunrise in the savannah.

The tour will end at camp about 8h Am for breakfast and after breakfast you have a refreshment which will followed by short game drive, visit for souvenirs shop and drive back to Kigali with you packed lunch.

After one and half you will lunch at lake Muhazi the third biggest lake where you will experience cultural heritage, cow milking, traditional milk processing and visit  East Africa revival Anglican church.

In this afternoon, after this community experience, you guide will drive you back Kigali to your hotel or transfer you at airport.

Distance to Kigali after park drive game is 200 km – 4 hours
